Parkview CEO Mike Packnett to speak at HU’s 115th Commencement

(April 1, 2013, HUNTINGTON, Ind.) — Parkview Health President and CEO Mike Packnett will be the keynote speaker at Huntington University’s 115th Commencement on May 18.

Packnett joined Parkview Health in June 2006. Parkview is the largest employer in northeast Indiana with more than 8,200 employees, and serves more than 820,000 residents in Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Huntington will honor graduates in the fieldhouse of the Merillat Complex at 2:30 p.m. The graduate hooding ceremony will take place at College Park Church in Huntington at 11 a.m. The university will award master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees to 323 graduates. The university will also award four honorary doctorate degrees.

An honorary Doctor of Humane Letters will be awarded to commencement speaker Packnett; an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science will be presented to Dale Haupert, a 25-year HU Board of Trustees member; an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters will be presented to Dr. Emmett Lippe, an 18-year board member; and an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science will be presented to Edward Souers, past president of the board and a 15-year board member.

Haupert has been in the life insurance business for 44 years. In 1969, he graduated from Purdue Life Insurance Institute. Later in 1976, he received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He was the leading agent for American United Life Insurance Company for three years, and has received many company and industry awards for his work.

Lippe has 29 years of experience as the superintendent of the Williamston and Novi School Districts in Michigan. In 2005, he began a consulting company, Lippe Consulting, LLC, where he was a mentor to other school leaders. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business education and mathematics from Huntington in 1964. He continued his education by earning Master of Arts degrees in business education and educational administration from the University of Northern Colorado and Michigan State University, respectively. He later earned two doctorate degrees in administration and curriculum from Michigan State and administration, curriculum and business from Ball State University.

Souers is a managing partner with Christen Souers LLC, a certified public accounting firm with locations in Fort Wayne, Angola, and Marion, Ind. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, management, and business education in addition to an Associate of Arts degree in accounting from Huntington in 1977 and 1975, respectively.
