Election Fever!

The first photo was taken in front of the Allen County Courthouse while the second from the Lincoln Tower. I’m not using names to protect the innocent, but the girls weren’t able to vote this morning so perhaps that should give you a clue as to where they should have been and why I’m not naming names. But, their youthful enthusiasm and excitement were great to see! They certainly garnered some support from passing motorists. I noticed McCain and Mitch signs being displayed. I’d say to the girls – don’t ever loose that excitement or enthusiasm! Stay involved and let your voices be heard.

This morning, around 10:30, I voted.  I live downtown, so I voted at the same polling place as Scott Spaulding.  Like Scott, I could have counted voters ahead of me on, well, two fingers.  And even at that, by time time I signed the poll book and headed to the machine, I was the only voter to be seen.  I was there probably a total of 15 minutes and outside of the two that were there right before me, that was all I saw!  I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed at there being no line.

Actually, thinking back over the years I’ve lived downtown, the only time I remember ever having to wait was the last presidential election four years ago – and at that it was perhaps a 20 minute wait.  Sure am glad I didn’t spend all that time waiting to early vote!  Perhaps this should be included as a selling point for the Condos at Harrison Square?  Live at the Square – NO wait to vote!

One of the things that I was reminded of when voting, was the fact that you can press a button and vote straight party – which I did not.  I think it will be interesting to see how big Obama’s or even McCain’s coattails will be.  

One thing I will say is that over the last few weeks I’ve been in the Obama/Jill Long Thompson campaign office downtown.  Almost all of these times were to inquire about Thompson activities.  The last time, was to inquire about a rally that I’d been told was happening at that moment.  Well, it wasn’t.  The person behind the desk, obviously an Obama supporter, told me he’d just gotten in from Illinois and didn’t know anything about an event and I’d have to wait to talk to someone.  Well, I waited 7 minutes, by my watch while he ate a sandwich and worked on his laptop – never once making an effort to holler or find someone to help.  Finally, someone wandered up from the back rooms and I was able to get the information I was looking for.  I couldn’t help wondering if this was indicative of cooperation between the two campaigns and more broadly between Obama and other Democratic candidates.

Google is renowned for their timely logo variations.  They have added another to this long list with a voting booth theme.
