Lugar Community Center Donates 4,000 books to Price Elementary School
Senator Lugar announced that the Lugar Community Service Center donated nearly 4,000 books to students at Price Elementary School in Fort Wayne. The books were donated from many in the community during a month-long book drive.
“Early literacy is a key indicator of a child’s future success,” said Lugar. “Fostering a love of literature through daily reading plays an important role in reaching that goal, and donating new and gently used books can help more Hoosier children have a successful education.”
The office collected books from the community in an effort to promote childhood literacy. Book drive bins were located at the community center, YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, Woodside Middle School, Summit Middle School and Homestead High School. Ingram Book Company, Half-Price Books, Hyde Brothers Books and Village Books all supported the program through donations.
Each of the 500 students at Price Elementary was able to take home two books. The remaining books were added to the school’s media center.
“We’ve got the best elementary school, the best kids in Fort Wayne,” said Price Elementary School Principal Steve Jones. “Thank you to Senator Lugar and his staff for this tremendous gift.”
