Mayor Tucker joins House Investments to break ground on affordable housing for seniors

Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 6, 2026) – New affordable housing for seniors is coming to the Village Premier campus in Southeast Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and representatives from House Investments broke ground today on the $14 million project, located at 1902 McKinnie Ave.

Recognized as a vital component of the 2020 Southeast Development Strategy, the new mixed-use four-story project will include 50 housing units specifically designed for seniors with incomes below the area median income. The 48,000 square foot facility includes approximately 3,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor and exercise and laundry facilities.

“I’m pleased to see more private investment in Southeast Fort Wayne and the Village Premier Neighborhood,” said Mayor Tucker. “Housing is one of my top priorities, and this project helps meet a critical need for more affordable housing for our growing senior population.”

“We are very excited to kick-off another project at the Village Premier development site,” said Matt Gadus of House Investments. “Our mission is to deliver projects that have an immediate impact for the residents and the surrounding community. This project will include 50 units of affordable housing for seniors, which will provide them the opportunity to age in place in their neighborhood. We are grateful to our partners, including the City of Fort Wayne, for their continued support for not only this project, but the overall master development plan.”

Village Premier is a 20-acre development located at the southeast corner of South Anthony Boulevard and McKinnie Avenue. Fort Wayne Community Development purchased the property in 2010 and demolished the blighted McMillen Park apartments on the site in 2011. The Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission issued a request for proposals to develop the property in late 2020.

House Investments, LLC is the master developer of Village Premier, which includes Park’s Edge, a $40 million development with 208 affordable apartments, a clubhouse and various amenities. Also on-site is the $4.5 million Meridian Health Clinic, which opened last fall. Several single-family homes have already been built; a total of 12 are expected on the Village Premier site. Future phases are expected to include for-rent town houses and an early learning childcare center.

Support for Village Premier senior housing comes from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, READI funding from the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Redevelopment Commission tax increment financing, and federal funding from the Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services.
