Fort Wayne Holds on to Win Second Game of Series
Lansing Michigan (September 4, 2026) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps held on to even the series at two games apiece, defeating the Lansing Lugnuts (Athletics affiliate), 8-6 at Jackson Field.
Fort Wayne (54-73, 27-35) never relinquished the lead after they got it in the second frame on a two-run home run from catcher Carlos Rodriguez. It is the seventh round-tripper for the 23-year-old this season and his second at Jackson Field. Rodriguez finished the night reaching base safely in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3. It’s his second three-hit game in his last three showings, with the other coming last Saturday against Dayton.
First baseman Luke Cantwell doubled in each of his first two at-bats, giving him six with the ‘Caps in 39 games this year. The former Pitt Panther later walked in the fifth inning and scored all three times he reached base. Fort Wayne finished the evening with four doubles, with the other two coming from Ryan Gerety and Rosman Verdugo.
Right-hander Miguel Alvarez picked up the three-inning save in his High-A debut. The 21-year-old allowed two runs and punched out a pair while recording the final nine outs of the contest. Alvarez began the season in the DSL, and this is his first save above the rookie ball level.
Lansing (55-72, 26-36) was led offensively by third baseman Jared Davis in the defeat. Davis laced a trio of doubles and is now batting .425 in his first 11 games in the Midwest League. Catcher Bryan Arendt reached base in his final four plate appearances, picking up base knocks in his last two at-bats. Right-hander Abel Mercerdes tossed his second hitless and scoreless outing of the series for the Lugnuts out of the bullpen, collecting the final four outs.
