Fort Wayne Swept at Quad Cities with Losing Streak to Season-Worst Eight Games

Davenport, Iowa (August 16, 2026) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps dropped both ends of their doubleheader on Sunday, getting swept by the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals affiliate) after a 5-2 loss in extra innings in game one and a 4-3 loss in game two.

After Nolan Sailors hit a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday night to send the second game of the doubleheader into extras, rain suspended the game for the night.

Upon the resumption on Sunday, Fort Wayne’s Dylan Grego acted as its placement runner at second base. Conner Westenburg placed a bunt single down the third-base line to move Grego to third. The next batter, Westenburg, stole second to put two in scoring position with nobody out. The ‘Caps were unable to bring either runner in following a pair of groundouts and a popout to end the threat.

In the bottom of the eighth, following a walk to Chris Brito, left fielder Derlin Figueroa hit a three-run, walk-off home run to close out a 5-2 win for Quad Cities. Figueroa’s Midwest League-leading 25th home run of the season broke the single-season Quad Cities home run record. A 48-year-old record held by Brian Harper, who hit 24 home runs in 1978 for the Quad Cities Angels.

In game two, Fort Wayne (46-65, 19-26) gave up a run in each of the first three innings. Sailors scored the game’s first run after reaching on a dropped third strike, stealing second before an errant throw into center brought him to third. Zion Rose (Royals No. 6 prospect) brought him in a batter later on a sacrifice fly.

Quad Cities (58-51, 28-18) stole six total bases, tied for the most Fort Wayne has given up in a game this season. Ben North delivered an RBI in the second inning before stealing both second and third base. In the third, Jose Cerice reached on a fielder’s choice before stealing second. The errant throw to center field was misplayed, allowing Cerice to reach third. He scored two pitches later on a wild pitch.

The ‘Caps scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning after beginning the frame with four-straight singles. Kasen Wells and Justin DeCriscio delivered the RBI knocks. Two innings later, DeCriscio tied the game at three with a sac bunt down the first line, where he reached on an errant throw.

The River Bandits took the lead for good in the seventh inning without recording a hit. Abraham Parra and Jeferson Villabona gave up four walks, including the go-ahead bases-loaded walk to Zion Rose.

In the ninth, Carlos Rodriguez kept the game alive with a two-out single. Conner Westenburg then pinch-ran for Rodriguez and was caught trying to steal second to end the game.

The ‘Caps will once again continue a suspended game on Tuesday against the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers affiliate), being resumed from Sunday, Aug. 2, at Dow Diamond. Fort Wayne will act as the away team, leading 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning of a seven-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. ET at Parkview Field. Following the conclusion of game one, the TinCaps and Loons will play a seven-inning game to wrap up the doubleheader.
