
On January 22, 2026 at 1226 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a subject armed with a handgun who was experiencing a mental health crisis.

Details/Summary:
On 01/22/26 at approximately 12:26 p.m., officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a report of a subject armed with a handgun who was experiencing a mental health crisis. An adult female was also inside the residence. Initial responding officers established communication with the occupants in an effort to peacefully de-escalate the situation.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to resolve the incident, the Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis Response Team (CRT), and Air Support Unit (ASU) were requested. The CRT established communication with the occupants, resulting in the adult female safely exiting the residence. After several additional minutes of communication, the adult male experiencing the mental health crisis exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody without incident or injury.
The adult male will be transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. There is no threat to the public at this time.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
