The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a life-threatening crash at the intersection of Bluffton Rd. and Winchester Rd. At 9:02pm, officers responded to a report of a bicyclist struck at the intersection Bluffton Rd. and Winchester Rd. Officers arrived and discovered an adult male had been riding a bicycle and was struck by a pickup truck. The adult male was determined to be in critical condition and was taken to a local hospital, where he was downgraded to life-threatening condition.
Preliminary information suggests the adult male bicyclist was on Winchester Rd, just southeast of the intersection with Bluffton Rd. The pickup truck was traveling south on Bluffton Rd and as it made a south/southeast turn onto Winchester Rd, it struck the bicyclist. The driver of the pickup, an adult male, remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. Neither he nor his adult female passenger suffered any injuries.The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team is currently investigating, taking measurements and searching for and collecting any evidence to determine the exact position and direction of travel of the bicyclist, as well as any other contributing factors. The Air Support Unit is documenting the scene from above.
Winchester Rd. between Bluffton Rd. and Woodhaven Dr. remains closed during the investigation.
