Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 24, 2025) – The Ruth Koomler Art Gallery is pleased to announce the introduction of the recent 2024 BFA graduate of St. Francis University…the up and coming Millicent Young!
Her solo show opens Wednesday, November 5th with an exhibition of her powerful abstracts. Millicent’s paintings explore the quiet power and duality of femininity through the metaphor of water…specifically the grounding essence of Lake Michigan…where she returns to often. Both physically and mentally. Having enjoyed and created art since middle school, Young uses the language of abstraction, cool colors and simplified forms to create environments that mirror the nature of water.
The pieces on exhibit depict the emotional qualities that water can evoke through the use of layering, cool color fields and abstract forms…offering the viewer the opportunity to tap into their own meanings, memories and experiences. And like water…the view can shift depending on your perspective. Sometimes calming, sometimes overwhelming. Never defined as one thing.
