Girl Scouts recognize four Gold Award recipients
Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 22, 2025) – Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana (GSNI-M) honored four Gold Award recipients at a ceremony Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Goshen College. The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, recognizing girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through Take Action projects that have sustainable impact in their communities – and beyond.
GSNI-M would like to thank members of the Gold Award Committee – Cindy Goshert, Terri Stumpf, Carol Winters and Courtney Sexton – as well as board member and Gold Award Girl Scout Robin Tribbett of Optare Financial Partners of Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network for generously sponsoring this event.
Girl Scouts who were honored included:
- Kenzie Sanderson, Columbia City, Indiana – Kenzie’s project focused on improving literacy by creating a Little Free Library in downtown Columbia City, Ind., to provide free, accessible books and reduce summer learning loss for children.
- Juliana Shiveley, Goshen, Indiana — Juliana’s aim was to advance STEM programming by introducing Girl Scout leader training on 3D design and printing, to prepare Girl Scouts for careers such as automotive prototyping and architecture.
- Grace Mellor, South Bend, Indiana — Grace created a program to provide American Girl dolls to lower-income students, incorporating them into the library system for greater access to enriching resources.
- Dakota Lee, Bluffton, Indiana — Dakota noticed that the equipment at her local park was more aimed at small children. She built a handicap-accessible Gaga ball pit for kids of all ages to enjoy and to provide a place where older youths can hang out with friends.
