American Red Cross Encourages Donors to Give A Pint and Get A Pint
Annual Pint for a Pint Blood Drive Kicks Off

Come to donate during the Pint for a Pint Blood Drive and receive a coupon for one free pint of Culver’s frozen custard! The American Red Cross Pint for a Pint Blood Drive will take place Monday, May 24 through Saturday, May 29 at both Fort Wayne donor centers.

Sponsored by Culver’s Butterburgers and Frozen Custard, K105FM and 97.3 WMEE, this popular blood drive is held near Memorial Day each year as a reminder to the community that the need for blood never takes a summer vacation. Slumps in blood donation are typical from late May through September since donors may fill their calendars with seasonal activities and overlook giving blood. At the same time, demand for blood can rise as increased roadway accidents related to summer travel may drain supplies.

“The need for blood never goes on vacation,” said Sharyn Whitman, CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “We’d like to encourage everyone to bring life to their summer memories by making and keeping an appointment to donate blood in their community.”

The Pint for a Pint Blood Drive will take place at two convenient locations in Fort Wayne:

Fort Wayne Donor Center - 1212 E. California Rd. (across from Memorial Coliseum)

  • Monday & Tuesday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday & Thursday: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Sunday (platelet donations only): 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Lutheran Hospital Donor Center - 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 107 (in Lutheran Hospital)

  • Monday through Wednesday: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday through Saturday: 6 a.m. – 12 noon

On Monday, May 24, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., 97.3 WMEE radio station will broadcast live from the Fort Wayne Donor Center. Then, on Wednesday, May 26, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. K105 will broadcast live from the Lutheran Hospital Donor Center.
