What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory in April

Easter in the Garden: Friday, April 2, 10 am – 3 pm Hop on down to the Botanical Conservatory with your camera and your children to meet the Easter Bunny. Enjoy the beauty and fragrance of daffodils and tulips in the indoor garden. Play games for prizes, make crafts, pot a plant, and enjoy light refreshments. From 10:30 am-2:30 pm, toddlers through elementary aged children can look for Easter eggs in our annual indoor Easter Egg Hunt. Enter our drawing for a chance to win a “sweet” Easter basket. Volcanoes – What a Blast: April 3 (11 – 2 pm) April 17 (11 am – 2 pm) April 15 (6 pm) Whether they’re oozing lava down into the ocean or blowing clouds of ash high into the sky, volcanoes are one of the most impressive displays of nature’s power. You’ll learn to identify volcanic rocks, see how magma spreads deep inside a mountain, and discover the best way to escape a lava flow. Appropriate for ages 5 – adult. Part of our Science Fun series; no reservations needed. Regular Conservatory admission fees apply.

Slightly Used Spring Bulb Sale: Tuesday, April 6, 10 am – 5 pm This annual sale features “slightly used” spring flowers such as tulips, daffodils and florist hydrangeas that have come out of the Conservatory’s “Downtown Landmarks” Showcase Exhibit. Reasonable prices, ready to plant. No reservations or admission fee. For more information, call (260) 427-6440.

$1 Night: April 1. On the first Thursday of the month we offer $1 admissions, 5-8 pm. Visit during those hours and pay only $1 per person, adult or child. (Babies and up to age 2 still admitted free.) Our gift shop is open until 8 pm, as well.

Science Thursdays: April 15. On the third Thursday of the month, drop-in to experience our informal, 45-minute science program at 6 pm – exploring the sorts of things that make science cool (and you can use to impress your friends and family!) This month’s theme is volcanoes. Regular Conservatory admission fees apply.

Botanical Brown Bag: Bring a sandwich and stop in at the Conservatory for an entertaining “garden moment” on the last Thursday of each month. Coffee and tea are free. No reservations needed; regular Conservatory admission fees apply.

Flower Fairies: April 29, 12-1 pm. Add some magic to your garden or hide a secret friend among your houseplants. In this lighthearted class, Master Gardener Ann Callow will show you how to create delightful fairies out of craft materials such as silk flowers, beads, and embroidery floss. When finished, enjoy a stroll through the Conservatory’s Butterflies and Fairies Showcase exhibit. While you’re feeling inspired, sign up for our Fairy Garden class on May 13 and create a lovely location for your fairy to call home.

What’s in Bloom Tour: April 29. 6 pm Every fifth Thursday, staff will offer a guided garden tour to point out what’s in bloom, what’s new, and what goes into designing and maintaining the gardens. No reservations; regular admission applies.
