Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 12, 2026) – The community is invited to join Mayor Sharon Tucker, the City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works Division, and local military and government officials for a ceremony to dedicate The Spire: Wounded Veterans Memorial installed in the center of the newly constructed roundabout located at Saint Francis Drive (formerly Leesburg Road) and West Main Street. The monument will be dedicated in memory of the late Mayor Tom Henry and his wife Cindy.
The dedication ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 11 at 5:00 p.m. at the Saint Francis Drive/West Main Street roundabout. Parking will be available at VFW Post 857, located at 2202 West Main Street and the Power Components Corporation at 1936 West Main Street. Saint Francis Drive and West Main Street will be closed to through traffic from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. that day, but those attending the dedication will have access to both parking lots.
Veterans who attend the celebration are encouraged to wear their military uniforms. Special seating will be set up in front of the monument for purple heart recipients.
The roundabout and The Spire: Wounded Veterans Memorial are key features of the Leesburg Road Extension Project in the Nebraska Neighborhood, an over $12 million investment in the community’s infrastructure. The project was designed to enhance roadway safety, extend Leesburg Road to Jefferson Boulevard, and install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Leesburg Road and Jefferson Boulevard near SweetCars. Additional improvements include ADA-compliant sidewalks, enhanced drainage, street lighting, and urban landscaping. Since 2014, the City has invested more than $419 million in neighborhood infrastructure enhancements.
