Allen County Board of Commissioners news release:

“Community Conversations” Event Extended by Request

Allen County, Indiana (August 25, 2026) – Each Tuesday evening in August, Allen County elected officials and department heads hosted open house-style gatherings at locations throughout the county. The informal events provided residents with an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, exchange ideas, and learn more about the services and initiatives that impact their daily lives.

Events were scheduled based on the availability of county leaders, as well as the accessibility of locations that could hold at least 100 people, provide parking, and were available to the county at no charge. The first Tuesday was hosted at the Fox Island Nature Center. Subsequent events were at the Woodburn Community Center and St. Joseph Township Hall, with the 4th event tonight, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the New Haven Community Center.

Based upon feedback from residents, the county has decided to add a 5th location in the growing Northwest section of the county. According to Commissioner Ron Turpin, “It wasn’t by design that we couldn’t schedule near Huntertown originally, it just happened based on schedules and location availability. However, we received several requests from constituents to host one more event. Fortunately, the Allen County Parks came through by offering the use of the Hanauer Reserve. And most of our other departments were able to join us too.”

So, the Community Conversations series will be extended to the first Tuesday in September:

Tuesday, September 1, 2026
5:30–7:00 p.m.
Allen County Hanauer Reserve
3022 Easterday Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46818

The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Commissioner Turpin will share a brief presentation on growth in Allen County at 5:45 PM. And then an open house will allow attendees to speak directly with county leaders in a relaxed, conversational setting.

Most county departments have committed to making the additional event, including the following:

  • Allen County Recorder
  • Allen County Department of Environmental Management (ACDEM)
