Dedication of new downtown light sculpture postponed

Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 14, 2026) – The dedication of the new lighted sculpture entitled Flow has been postponed due to delays caused by recent storms and to allow the artist additional time to ensure the system that anchors the sculpture in place is properly installed. The dedication was originally planned for Wednesday, August 19 and a new date has not been set.

Recently, the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission selected artist James Lucey to create Flow, which will replace the 77 Steps lighted sculpture in the alley located on the south side of West Berry Street between Harrison and Calhoun streets. The 77 Steps sculpture was dedicated in 2020 and only had a five-year lifespan due to damage from wind and storms.

Flow will be an overhead kinetic light sculpture inspired by Fort Wayne’s rivers, transforming the alley into a flowing corridor of light, movement and community. The sculpture is funded by the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission through the Public Art Giveback program.

Lucey, the lead artist for Flow, is a designer specializing in interactive light-based sculpture. He is affiliated with color+light, an Oakland, California-based collective of artists, designers and engineers that create immersive and unforgettable experiences using state-of-the-art lighting technology.
