Statement from the United Way of Allen County regarding the City of Fort Wayne’s proposed Anchor Resource Center.
Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 15, 2026) — The Board of Directors of United Way of Allen County recognizes that homelessness and housing instability remain among the most pressing challenges facing our community. These issues impact individuals and families directly experiencing hardship, while also affecting the overall health, stability, and well-being of Allen County as a whole.
As an organization committed to advancing housing stability and improving quality of life for all residents, we believe meaningful progress requires coordinated and collaborative solutions that help individuals experiencing homelessness access services, overcome barriers, and move toward permanent housing and long-term stability. We view the proposed Anchor Resource Center as an important opportunity for community partners to work together in a more intentional and coordinated way. Bringing resources, services, and support systems together has the potential to strengthen our collective response and improve our ability to meet the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
We recognize that homelessness cannot be addressed by any single organization alone. Lasting solutions require collaboration among service providers, government agencies, businesses, faith communities, nonprofit organizations, and residents working together toward a common goal. We support efforts that strengthen partnerships and build more effective systems of care within our community.
Our support reflects our belief that addressing homelessness requires a comprehensive, community-wide approach and a shared commitment to helping individuals and families achieve long-term housing stability and self-sufficiency. We also recognize that initiatives of this scale continue to evolve through planning, implementation, and ongoing community engagement.
As planning and implementation efforts continue to evolve, we remain encouraged by the commitment to engaging community stakeholders and fostering thoughtful discussion around this important issue. By working together, we can create effective and sustainable solutions that address one of Allen County’s most significant challenges while strengthening the future of our community.
