
On June 16, 2026, at 1042 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 6200 block of Walnut Valley Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The first firefighters on the scene found a one-story residence with light smoke coming from the eaves. The crew had to force entry into the residence. The dog inside escaped out the door as firefighters entered the home. A fire was located in the kitchen and extinguished. Other arriving crews, aggressively conducted a search of the home for any victims or other pets with nothing found. The home had a working smoke detector. No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire was under control within 21 minutes of the time of alarm.
The cause of the fire was determined to be the dog turning on a stovetop burner that ignited items on the stovetop.
