The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Announces Andrew Constantine stepping down from his position as Music Director and Celebrates 17 Seasons of Artistic Excellence
Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 5, 2026) — The Fort Wayne Philharmonic announces that Andrew Constantine, beloved Music Director since 2009, is leaving his role as Music Director.
Constantine’s final closing performance on May 16, 2026, marked more than the end of a season; it celebrated the culmination of an extraordinary era of artistic leadership and achievement. Over the past 17 seasons, Constantine helped transform the Philharmonic into a nationally recognized ensemble through visionary programming, artistic excellence, and a deep commitment to enriching the cultural fabric of Northeast Indiana.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we extend our deepest gratitude for Andrew’s extraordinary leadership and artistic vision,” said Charles Cammack, Jr., Board Chair of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Board of Directors. “His influence reaches far beyond the stage inspiring musicians, audiences, donors, and our entire community through a legacy of excellence, innovation, and passion for music. The impact of his work will continue to shape the Philharmonic for generations to come.”
Since his appointment following an international search in 2009, Constantine elevated the Philharmonic’s artistic profile through visionary programming and passionate community projects. Milestone initiatives such as the “Made in America” season, “Composer: REVEALED” series, and the powerful Violins of Hope collaboration have fostered deep community connections and affirmed music’s role as a force for unity and transformation.
Constantine’s impact extends far beyond the concert stage. Under his leadership, the Philharmonic launched its first commercial recording in 2018 and established the International Conductors’ Workshop in 2015, drawing talent and attention from around the world. His insightful podcast, “A Stick with a Point,” continues to highlight the inner workings of the classical music industry, shining a light on composers, producers, directors, and thought leaders.
“Over the course of his tenure, Andrew has guided this orchestra through moments of transformation, growth, and remarkable achievement with unwavering dedication,” said Brittany Hall, President and CEO of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. “His vision and steadfast commitment to artistic excellence has elevated the Philharmonic to new heights and helped shape the organization we are today. As we honor his extraordinary legacy, we do so with immense gratitude and deep admiration for the lasting impact he has made on our musicians, audiences, and community.”
“For nearly two decades I have been proud to serve as Music Director of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic,” said Constantine. “It’s been a fascinating and productive journey during which I have been thrilled to share the stage with so many wonderful musicians and friends and, witness how the orchestra has embraced my musical ideas and philosophy. I’m deeply honored to have been entrusted with the growth of this wonderful orchestra and to celebrate everything we’ve built side by side with the musicians, staff and board, who make this orchestra so meaningful to the community.”
As the Fort Wayne Philharmonic looks to the future, it does so with reverence for Maestro Constantine’s legacy and with a profound commitment to honoring the enduring mark he has left on generations of music lovers throughout Northeast Indiana and beyond.
