City of Fort Wayne Launches Southeast Corridors Planning Project
Community invited to help shape the future of key Southeast corridorsFort Wayne, Indiana (April 20, 2026) – The City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works Division invites residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to help shape the future of several key streets through the Southeast Corridors Planning Project – an effort to reimagine how these corridors function and serve the community.
Funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE program [Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity program], the project focuses on approximately 8.9 miles of major streets in Southeast Fort Wayne, including S. Anthony Boulevard, W. Paulding Road, E. Paulding Road, Fairfield Avenue/Tillman Road, and E. Tillman Road. These corridors are vital daily routes and play an important role in the identity, safety and economic future of surrounding neighborhoods.
The project will develop a comprehensive plan to make these streets safer, more connected, and more vibrant – supporting people of all ages and abilities whether they walk, bike, take transit, or drive. The effort will result in a Master Development Plan and Action Plan that includes roadway concepts, as well as recommendations for land use, housing, retail, and placemaking.
“This is about more than roadways,” said City Engineer Patrick Zaharako. “It’s about creating corridors that connect neighborhoods, support everyday life, and unlock long-term investment in Southeast Fort Wayne.”
Community input is a critical part of the planning process, and the City is offering multiple ways for residents to get involved:
- Take the pre-charrette survey to share priorities and ideas
- Participate in the Community Design Charrette, May 2-5
- Sign up for the project newsletter to receive updates
- Spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors
The Community Design Charrette will be a hands-on, multi-day workshop where residents, stakeholders, and design professionals work together to develop ideas and solutions. Activities will include open houses, roundtable discussions, and pop-up engagement opportunities throughout the project area. The full itinerary will be announced soon.
The Southeast Corridors Planning Project is an opportunity to reimagine streets as places that connect neighborhoods, support daily life, and create new opportunities for investment and growth.
