Visit Fort Wayne Unveils Accessible Destination Action Plan

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 14, 2026) – Visit Fort Wayne is proud to announce the launch of the Accessible Destination Action Plan. This five-year plan details the initiatives that will further integrate accessibility into every aspect of the visitor and resident experience—ensuring that Fort Wayne and Allen County continue to grow as welcoming, inclusive places for all.

Accessibility is not just an aspiration. It is a mindset rooted in action, commitment, and care.

Building on the strong foundation established through the 10-year Tourism Master Plan, Visit Fort Wayne is committed to positioning Fort Wayne and Allen County as national leaders in accessibility and Universal Design. Our goal is to set a new standard, one where visitors and residents of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds can fully participate in and enjoy everything our community has to offer.

The Accessible Destination Action Plan represents our promise: to embed accessibility progress into each of the recommendations of the 10-Year Tourism Master Plan, to share our story widely and transparently, and to strengthen collaboration, infrastructure, and community-wide engagement.

Together—with the leadership of businesses, nonprofits, community partners, and individuals with lived expertise—we are shaping a future where Fort Wayne, Allen County, and the region are celebrated as destinations where everyone belongs. This work strengthens the social fabric of our community and ensures that we continue to grow as a place that is welcoming and accessible to all.

The Accessible Destination Action Plan was supported by the WindSwell Foundation and Visit Fort Wayne, who commissioned Whereabout, a destination strategy firm, to lead the planning process and community engagement.

The launch marks the beginning of a new chapter. In the months ahead, Visit Fort Wayne and our partners will begin implementing priority initiatives, expanding community training, and developing tools and resources to support accessible travel and inclusive experiences. Progress updates will be shared regularly as we work together to build a destination where every person can explore, participate, and thrive.

We invite our community members and the hospitality industry to join us in championing accessibility as a defining attribute of Fort Wayne/Allen County by embracing inclusive practices, engaging in training opportunities, and helping shape a destination where all abilities feel welcome.
