FWPD: 2008 Cold Case Rape Investigation Arrest, US 27 and I-469

On December 12, 2025, at 1435 hours, Fort Wayne Police Detectives made an arrest in reference to a cold case Rape investigation from 2008.

Details/Summary:

On December 12, 2025, Detectives with the Fort Wayne Police Department made an arrest in reference to a cold case Rape investigation from 2008. At the time of the Crime, the identity of the suspect was unknown. Earlier this year, the Fort Wayne Police Department received a DNA hit from the Combined DNA Index System, or “CODIS” pertaining to the investigation. After additional follow up by the FWPD Crimes Against Persons Unit and Crime Scene technicians, the suspect’s identity was confirmed as Brad Battershell.

Through a combined effort from the FWPD’s Crimes Against Persons Unit and Vice & Narcotics Division, Investigators successfully located Battershell and he was taken into custody. He was transported to the Allen County Jail. Detective Kim Seiss of the Crimes Against Persons Unit (CAPS) was assigned to the investigation.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
