On June 27, 2025, at 2321 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the downtown Hampton Inn and Suites at 223 West Jefferson Boulevard.
Time of Alarm: 2321 hours
On Scene: 23:24 hours
Under Control: 0006 hours
The first units arrived on scene to find a seven story hotel with an evacuation in progress. There was no smoke or fire visible on arrival. Occupants did advise the first arriving unit that there was a fire on the roof of the building.
The first unit proceeded to the roof and found an active fire on the roof of the hotel and light to moderate smoke on several floors of the building. Multiple fire crews worked to extinguish the fire while simultaneously searching all floors to ensure all the occupants had
evacuated. Due to the size of the building extra fire crews were requested to respond to the scene. All 149 occupants were able to self-evacuate.
The fire was under control in 42 minutes. Fire crews continued to work on salvage operations and to systematically ventilate each floor to clear out all the smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
