Allen County Board of Commissioners news release:
Commissioners Aware of Solar Ordinance Hearing
Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 3, 2025) – The Allen County Board of Commissioners is aware of the Zoning Ordinance Amendment public hearing occurring on June 12 at the Memorial Coliseum on a Solar Amendment Petition. The Allen County Department of Planning Services (“DPS”) is working through the prescribed process by submitting a proposal to the Allen County Plan Commission. The Allen County Plan Commission holds the public hearing and the business meeting following that, at which time they consider a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners.
The Board of Commissioners will not field questions or interviews regarding solar at this time as to not influence the public hearing or the outcome of a pending Plan Commission vote. The Allen County Plan Commission will submit the results of the business meeting and their recommendations to the Commissioners. These will be formally presented by DPS staff at a regularly scheduled Legislative Session sometime in the future. There is no public hearing associated with this presentation or decision by the Board of Commissioners.
For all questions about a Solar Ordinance Amendment, please email DPS at acfwspecialprojects@allencounty.us and a DPS staff member will respond within five (5) business days. Many answers to common questions have already been provided on their Solar Amendment web page. The Commissioners encourage the public to start with their FAQ list as it provides a comprehensive overview of the top questions fielded by DPS.
