The Allen County Department of Homeland Security encourages residents to avoid any outdoor burning through the next 48 hours.
News release from the Allen County Department of Homeland Security:
The Allen County Office of Homeland Security encourages residents to avoid open burning during windy conditions.
Fort Wayne, Indiana (March 13, 2025) – Today alone, Allen County Fire personnel have responded to at least eight brush fires, including two more currently in progress. These fires require many of our personnel and equipment, making them unavailable for other emergency fire and EMS calls. Today Allen County was assisted by fire and EMS crews from Whitley and Noble Counties in Indiana, from Paulding, and Van Wert Counties in Ohio. Allen County Fire also responded to DeKalb County to assist them with a brush fire today.
Residents are encouraged to avoid any outdoor burning over the next 48 hours while these dry and windy weather conditions persist.
As a reminder, Allen County Code requires residents who will use agricultural open burning to seek a notification permit from their servicing fire department prior to burning. Open burning is not permitted when wind speeds are below 5 mph or greater than 20 mph. Contained fires are allowed by county code and municipal ordinance but discouraged during this high fire risk period over the next 48 hours.
