New Haven Indiana Mayor Steve McMichael’s statement on the passing of former New Haven Mayor Lynn Shaw:
News release from the City of New Haven:
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the passing of former City of New Haven Mayor Lynn Shaw.
Lynn Shaw was the 5th Mayor out of a total of 7 mayors who have ever served the New Haven community. Lynn served New Haven as its Mayor from 1988-1999. Lynn was also a barber as well as the Adams Township Justice of the Peace and then the Adams Township Trustee right before he became New Haven’s Mayor.
Lynn was instrumental in the storage of the Gronauer Lock, the historical timbers that were discovered during the construction of I-469.
He was deeply engaged in building the new Fire Station in 1990 after the merging of the New Haven and Adams Township Fire Department Station. This was the first merger of departments in the State of Indiana at the time.
Lynn will always be remembered for his advocacy for the New Haven community regarding the court proceedings over the operation of a hazardous waste facility just outside the New Haven city limits; and he will be remembered for the construction of the current City Hall building that opened in July of 1999.
Arrangements will be shared once they are made available.
