Allen County Highway Department Gearing Up for Ice Storm
Allen County, Indiana (February 5, 2025) – The Allen County Highway Department is gearing up for the freezing rain advisory issued by the National Weather Service for 7:00 p.m. tonight until 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025.
The Highway Department is currently pre-treating the main problem areas with calcium chloride to reduce ice build-up in preparation for the potential precipitation this evening. Due to the areas expecting the possible freezing rain, the Supervisors of the North and South Highway Barns will handle the scheduling differently. Highway staff that work in the northern part of the county will cover the weather event in two shifts. One crew will come in at 11:00 p.m. tonight and the second crew will come in at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. Staff in the southern part of the county will come in tonight at 9:00 p.m. and work through until the roads are clear.
According to Allen County Homeland Security Director Bernie Beier, ‘We ask residents to stay off the roads during the advisory if they can to allow the highway department to do their job. Anticipate the hazardous conditions now and plan ahead if you do have to travel.”
