On September 22, 2023, at 0957 hours, the FWPD Vice and Narcotics unit attempted a traffic stop in the area of Clinton Street and Creighton Avenue.

Suspect Arrested #1: Jajuan Burley, 38 years of age

  1. Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  2. Attempted Murder – Felony Level 1
  3. Disarming (Felony)
  4. Resisting in a Vehicle (Felony)
  5. Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  6. Narcotics charges still pending

Arrested Suspect #2: Juanita Gray, 57 years of age

  1. Obstruction of Justice (Felony)

All information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation unfolds.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Vice and Narcotics unit attempted a traffic stop today at 9:57 am in the area of Clinton St. and Creighton Ave. The suspect fled and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended roughly at 10:13 am in the 5100 block of Winter St. The adult male suspect stopped in front of a residence on Winter St. and his mother came out of the house and an item exchange occurred between the suspect and his mother. The mother attempted to go back inside the house after the exchange and was hit by the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle also grazed an officer. During the dangerous situation created by the suspect, shot(s) were fired by an officer. The suspect, Jajuan Burley was struck and is in non-life threatening condition. The mother, Juanita Gray and officer are both in non-life threatening condition as well. All parties involved were given or offered medical care.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
