Mazur Throws 6 Scoreless, But Dragons Win

Dayton, Ohio (May 19, 2023) – TinCaps starting pitcher Adam Mazur threw six scoreless innings, but the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) won, 2-1, on Friday night at Day Air Ballpark.

Mazur (No. 6 Padres prospect) struck out a career-high six batters in the longest outing of his rookie season. He held Dayton to three hits and no walks.

Dragons starter Julian Aguiar was just as good, though, with six scoreless innings of one-hit, one-walk ball.

Dayton broke the scoring seal in the eighth as nine-hitter Trey Faltine hit a two-runner homer.

The ‘Caps nearly equalized in the ninth. With one out, center fielder Jakob Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect) walked to extend his on-base streak to 18 games. Shortstop Jackson Merrill (No. 1 Padres prospect) launched a double to left-center field that nearly cleared the wall. The double plated Marsee. Merrill is now on a six-game hitting streak. TinCaps third baseman Marcos Castañon also singled in the game, stretching his on-base streak to 11 games.
