Justin Anderson named to USA World Cup Qualifying Team

Fort Wayne, Indiana (November 19, 2021) – Current Fort Wayne Mad Ant forward Justin Anderson has been named to the 12-player Team USA World Cup Qualifying team, as announced today.

Anderson is averaging 18.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game through Fort Wayne’s first four games this season. He has started all four games and is averaging 31.7 minutes per contest.

Team USA will train November 20-25 at the University of Houston and will participate in the first competition window of the 2021-23 FIBA World Cup Qualifying games, which will be played in Chihuahua, Mexico. Team USA will face Cuba on November 28 and will Mexico on November 29.

Former NBA head coach Jim Boylen will serve as head coach of the USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Qualifying team.

Anderson previously was part of the February 2020 USA Basketball Men’s AmeriCup Qualifying Team that went 2-0. Starting in both games, he averaged 20 minutes, a team second-best 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a game. Anderson also owns additional USA Basketball experience having been a member of the 2019 USA Select Team that trained against the 2019 USA World Cup Team finalists in Los Angeles, as well as the 2010 USA U17 World Cup Team and the 2009 USA U16 National Team that won gold medals.

The 12-man roster will be one third current and former Mad Ants with Anderson’s inclusion. Former Fort Wayne Mad Ants Brian Bowen II (now of the Iowa Wolves), Josh Gray (Long Island Nets) and free agent Orlando Johnson will all be part of the team.
