Spotlight on Rivers: Clean Drains Fort Wayne Fest Celebrates World Rivers Day
Many Free Activities for All Ages

Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 23, 2021) – It’s time to celebrate our rivers at the Be River SmART: Clean Drains Fort Wayne Fest on World Rivers Day, Sunday, September 26, 2021.

A fun-filled day filled with activities for all invites residents to Promenade Park to join millions around the world for World Rivers Day. Nearly 100 countries participate in World Rivers Day.

Sponsored by Friends of the Rivers, the event is part of a three-year collaboration with Fort Wayne City Utilities to protect our rivers by keeping millions of pounds of trash and debris, chemicals, and other pollutants out of our storm drains and ultimately out of our waterways. The storm drains flow directly to our rivers, streams and creeks.

The partnership ties perfectly to the 2021 World Rivers Day theme of “waterways in our communities,” with an emphasis on the need to protect and restore urban waterways.

Be River SmART uses art in the form of murals near storm drains to remind us that only rain should go down the drain. This year 33 murals were painted throughout the City. Clean Drains Fort Wayne Fest attendees will have a chance to meet the artists and participate in fun activities along the river. Events include dance and music performances, storytelling, fishing and rowing demonstrations, obstacle courses, karaoke, boat rides and many other activities. A complete list of events is attached to this email.
