Bus Fleet Gets Annual Check-Up This Week
Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 4, 2021) – Fort Wayne Community Schools’ fleet of nearly 300 buses are getting checked from top to bottom this week to make sure they are ready for the first day of school Monday, Aug. 16.
Each year, the Indiana State Police inspect each school bus to make sure they are in shape to transport students. The buses are thoroughly examined with doors opened and closed, lights checked, engines inspected and more. Inspectors check everything from the brake systems and fuel lines to the number of band-aids on the bus.
FWCS has a history of excellent inspections, which is important because nearly 16,000 (more than 50 percent) of the district’s students ride FWCS buses to and from school every day. The fleet travels a combined 3.2 million miles a year.
