On July 1, 2021, at approximately 12:20 am officers responded to the 2500 block of Hoevelwood Road for the report of a disturbance involving a reported intoxicated male. Officers arrived at the scene and attempted to make contact with a male who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was pointed out by witnesses to be involved. Officers attempted to stop the driver but he refused and fled from them in his vehicle. The driver reportedly was traveling westbound on Paulding Road, continuing to elude officers at a high rate of speed. Officers reportedly lost sight of the suspect vehicle in the area of Paulding and Hanna Street. Moments later officers located a vehicle that crashed in the 200 block of East Paulding Road. It appeared the driver left the roadway, struck a light pole, a tree, a house, and a gas line. Paramedics were called to the scene to render aid. It is reported that all three people that were inside the vehicle were declared deceased at the scene. Due to the gas line being struck, several residents in the 200 block of East Paulding had to be evacuated from their homes.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team was called to the scene. They will be in the area for several hours to take measurements and further investigate the crash. The identities of the decedents from the incident will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
