On June 27, 2021, at 10:30 am, the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang and Violent Crimes Unit attempted to make contact with a 29-year-old male subject known to have several active arrest warrants, including Robbery.

On June 27, 2021 at approximately 10:30 am officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang and Violent Crimes Unit were attempting to make contact with a 29 year old male subject known to have several active arrest warrants, including Robbery. The subject reportedly went inside of 4621 S. Hanna Street. While officers attempted to safely evacuate the residents inside, the suspect reportedly climbed out a window in an attempt to elude the police and went into the next-door neighbor’s residence at 4619 S. Hanna Street. After the residents of 4619 S. Hanna Street safely left their residence, officers made numerous attempts to get the subject to exit but he refused.

The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were called to the scene and made numerous attempts to make contact with the suspect. Due to the suspect refusing to make contact with officers chemical munitions were utilized in an attempt to have him surrender. Only upon making entry into the residence did the suspect, 29 year old Vincent Shelton surrender and he was subsequently taken into custody.
