On June 24th, 2021, Indiana State Police Sergeant Rob Smith celebrated 20 years of service with the Indiana State Police.

Indiana State Police- Fort Wayne Post Sergeant Rob Smith Celebrates 20 Years of Service

Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 25, 2021) – On June 24th, 2021, Indiana State Police Sergeant Rob Smith celebrated 20 years of service with the Indiana State Police. Smith is a native of Garrett, Indiana and a 1991 graduate of Garrett High School. He attended Vincennes University for two years and studied Criminal Justice before being hired as a Patrolman with the Kendallville Police Department. In 1997, Smith became a Deputy with the Noble County Sheriff Department and worked as one of their K-9 officers and in 1999, he was awarded two Medals of Valor.

On June 24, 2001 Smith graduated from the 61st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Toll Road Post where he spent three months working Lake, LaPorte, and Porter Counties before transferring to the Fort Wayne Post where patrolled Noble and LaGrange Counties.

In 2005, Smith transferred to the Meth Suppression Section and served as the Fort Wayne District Coordinator. In 2009, he transferred to the Drug Enforcement Section and was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Safe Streets Task Force in Fort Wayne.

In 2017, Smith was re-assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force in Fort Wayne where he served until his promotion to the rank of Sergeant in April 2019, then assigned to the Field Investigation Section as the Investigative Squad Leader for the Fort Wayne Post. In this current position, Smith supervises the day-to-day investigative duties of eight detectives and one administrative assistant assigned to the Fort Wayne Post.

During his career with the Indiana State Police, Smith has served as a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon and he has been the recipient of two awards for exemplary service. In 2011, he was awarded the FBI Meritorious Achievement award in Washington, D.C. and in 2012, he was awarded the Indiana State Police Life Saving Award.

Sergeant Smith currently resides with his family in rural Allen County.
