Elevated Fire Danger this afternoon
Avoid or use caution during any outdoor burning

Conditions expected this afternoon:

  • Wind gusts – 20 to 30 mph
  • Relative humidity – around 30%
  • Highs – upper 80s to around 90

Remember:

  • Avoid making sparks (dragging chains, mufflers) or throwing out lit or smoldering items like cigarettes
  • Have a water source readily available
  • Ensure any fires are full extinguished

Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 5, 2021) – Gusty southwesterly winds, temperatures approaching 90 and relative humidity values dropping as low as 30 percent will all lead to an elevated fire danger across the forecast area. The greatest fire risk exists along and north of US-6 where drought conditions are causing additional stress to plants, crops and grasses, making them more susceptible to burn given the lack of moisture. Use caution with (or avoid) uncontained campfires and ensure any embers are fully extinguished.
