FWFD: Water rescue, Fairfield Avenue

On June 5, 2021, at 7:40 pm, the Fort Wayne Fire and Police Department responded to a reported drowning in Foster Park on the city’s south side.

Fort Wayne Communications located the GPS location of the 9-1-1 phone call to an area on the St. Marys River Greenway approximately two miles south of Foster Park. Fort Wayne Fire Department divers initiated a water rescue operation in the 6600 block of Fairfield Avenue after meeting with witnesses saying a person had gone under water while wading in the river.

The search is continuing in coordination with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
