IN THE END THE, MONTH`S AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 59.1 DEGREES. THIS IS 2.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL AND RANKS AS THE 50TH COLDEST MAY ON RECORD. THIS MONTH, RAIN ONCE AGAIN FAVORED THE GREATER FORT WAYNE AREA INSTEAD OF THE THOSE TOWARD THE MICHIGAN STATELINE. FORT WAYNE RECEIVED 1.70 INCHES MORE PRECIPITATION THAN SOUTH BEND. THIS MONTH, RAIN ESSENTIALLY FELL IN TWO SPURTS: 1.85 INCHES ON THE 9TH (NEW DAILY RECORD, BREAKING THE PREVIOUS OF 1.51 INCHES IN 2003), AND 2.04 INCHES FROM THE 26TH THROUGH 28TH. NO MEASURABLE RAINFALL OCCURRED FROM THE 10TH THROUGH 25TH WHICH WORSENED DROUGHT CONDITIONS TEMPORARILY. THE MONTHLY TOTAL RAINFALL OF 4.67 INCHES IS 0.09 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
