Fort Wayne, Indiana (March 10, 2021) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire in the 600 block of Wolverton Drive at 2:15 pm on March 10, 2021.
Firefighters were called by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the residence and knew the residence was empty.
Firefighters arrived seeing light smoke from the rear of the structure. The crews were met with heavier smoke upon entry and located a fire towards the rear of the structure, in and outside. The fire was rapidly extinguished while a simultaneous search found no occupants or pets.
The investigation was found to be accidental and the cause an improperly disposed of smoking material.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana Michigan Power, NIPSCO, and City of Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Enforcement.
