FWFD: House fire, Bellevue Drive

Fort Wayne, Indiana (February 17, 2021) – The Fort Wayne Fire department was dispatched to a house fire in the 2100 block of Bellevue Drive on February 17, 2021, at 7:53 am.

Firefighters arrived to find moderate smoke coming from single-story residential and confirmed a working fire.

Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack while searching others inside, rescuing seven cats. The fire was extinguished in approximately 15 minutes. An extensive overhaul of the crawl space and the back area of the residence was completed.

One occupant had self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.

The fire was deemed to be accidental as a propane external heat source was placed too close to combustibles while attempting to thaw frozen water pipes.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the City of Fort Wayne’s Neighborhood Code Enforcement, NIPSCO, Indiana Michigan Power, and the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
