Fatal Accident Investigation

Victim(s): Adult Male (Non-Life Threatening Injuries) Adult Male (Deceased)

On Sunday, January 17, 2021, shortly after 4:00 pm, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Washington Boulevard between Webster and Ewing.

Officers were advised that multiple calls were being received, stating a small SUV that had struck a tree across from the Allen County Public Library’s Main Branch.

Upon FWPD and Fort Wayne Fire Department’s arrival, they located 2 victims pinned inside the vehicle. One victim was pronounced deceased on scene, and the other victim was extricated from the vehicle and transported by medics to a local hospital with Non-Life Threatening Injuries.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Accident Investigators, along with Crime Scene Technicians and Air Support Units, were called to the scene to investigate this accident and determine the accident’s cause.

Due to the accident and subsequent investigation, Washington Boulevard between Webster and Ewing Streets will be closed to all traffic until the investigation is complete.

At this point in the investigation, it is too early to identify any contributing factors to this accident.

The victim’s Identities will be released later by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Washington Boulervard reopened at 7:30 pm.
