Redevelopment Commission Seeking Proposals to Develop Southeast Property

(November 10, 2020) – The Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission is seeking proposals to redevelop 23 acres in southeast Fort Wayne, located at 4209 Plaza Drive at the corner of Plaza Drive and McKinnie Avenue.

The Redevelopment Commission voted yesterday to accept the transfer of the property from the City of Fort Wayne. Using federal Housing and Urban Development funds, the City of Fort Wayne purchased the property in 2010 and demolished the blighted McMillen Park apartments on the site in 2011. The Scholar House 44-unit apartment buildings currently sit on a portion of the land.

“This property presents an opportunity for an exceptional development that will act as a catalyst for community and economic growth,” said Nancy Townsend, Community Development Director. “It’s located in one of the key areas for revitalization noted in the Southeast Strategy 2020 and we intend to deliver a high-quality project that will be an asset to the community.”

The Redevelopment Commission is accepting proposals for mixed-use development of the property, which consists of five tracts of land. The project vision includes a development that delivers a diversity of housing types to a range of income levels and also serves as a neighborhood center with commercial and retail opportunities. Proposals will be due January 11, 2021.
