Details/Summary:
On Friday, 07/10/2020, at approximately 12:51 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Spring Street and Lindenwood Avenue reference a traffic hazard. A witness called dispatch to report a tree limb was blocking the roadway. Officers arrived and determined the tree limb in the road was caused by a vehicle crash. Officers located a vehicle off the east side of the roadway in the Lindenwood Cemetery. A male/adult and female/adult were inside the vehicle. Paramedics pronounced both deceased at the scene.
Evidence indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound in the 1300 block of Lindenwood Avenue when it crossed the centerline and left the east side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree and fence after leaving the road. Investigators reported the vehicle flipped at least once before coming to rest in the cemetery. They indicated speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victims. Lindenwood Avenue will remain closed to all traffic between Spring Street and Illinois Road while investigators process the scene.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
