I&M plans transmission line upgrade in Allen and Whitley Counties
Fort Wayne, Indiana (February 21, 2020) – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans an approximate $77 million investment to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in Allen and Whitley counties in Northeastern Indiana.
The Western Fort Wayne Area Improvements Project involves:
- Building about 24 miles of new 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line
- Upgrading approximately 4 miles of 34.5-kV transmission line to 69-kV standards
- Upgrading several area substations
- Building the new Snapper Substation in southern Churubusco
The project involves rebuilding some sections of line in the company’s current right-of-way. For other portions of the project, study segments are under consideration for potential line routes.
I&M invites community members and landowners in the project area to learn more at two upcoming open houses.
Both meetings will cover the same information and will be held at the Carroll High School cafeteria, 3701 Carroll Road in Fort Wayne:
- The public event for owners of property in Allen County is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- The public event for owners of property in Whitley County is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m
Because there are no formal presentations or program, attendees can arrive at any time to review maps and talk with project representatives. I&M encourages landowners to provide input to help the company determine the final proposed line route.
