Investing in our Future: Commitment to Maintain and Improve Parks
(December 18, 2018) – Mayor Tom Henry and Parks & Recreation Director Steve McDaniel today provided an update on the 2018 capital improvement projects and programs in our parks and facilities operated by the Parks & Recreation Department. Over 43 projects were completed in 2018 and the City of Fort Wayne invested close to $3 million in Parks & Recreation Department improvements in 2018.
“I’m encouraged by the amount of investments we were able to make in our parks throughout the City of Fort Wayne,” said Mayor Henry. “The Parks and Recreation Department provides essential services to residents and visitors. It’s vital that we continue our commitment to maintaining and improving our parks as an important component of having quality of life amenities that position Fort Wayne for current and future success.”
The following completed 2018 Projects were shared:
- Foellinger Theatre Performer Area Improvements Project
- Various Parks Paving Improvements (Salomon, Reservoir, Memorial)
- Various Parks Playground Improvements (Camp Allen, Kreager, Hamilton, Lions, Johnny Appleseed)
- Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park Pond Improvements
- Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park Parking Lot Improvements
- Salomon Farm Learning Center Expansion Project
- Packard Park Futsall Court Improvements
- Shoaff Park Restroom/Shelter Building
- Franke Park Harris Road Police Canine Training Facility
- Buckner Park Playground Safety Surfacing Improvement

“Our department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Fort Wayne,” said Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel, “and I thank Mayor Henry, Fort Wayne City Council, donors, and the hard-working Parks and Recreation staff and volunteers for another successful year.”
The City will continue to invest in the Parks & Recreation Department, with $3 million of public funding slated for 2019.
