Downtown Improvement District announces winner of new events contest: Spring Forward Fest!

(August 1, 2018) – The Downtown Improvement District announced today the winner of this year’s New Events Contest, which invited businesses, organizations, and individuals to submit their best ideas for a chance to receive significant production support for new events in February, March, or April 2019. The Downtown Improvement District is pleased to announce that Spring Forward Fest is the winner of this year’s contest.
Spring Forward Fest is a celebration of light in recognition of Fort Wayne’s evolving and advancing skyline. The annual event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on March 9, 2019, the Saturday eve of the Daylight Savings time change. Three downtown destinations offering indoor and outdoor views of the skyline will serve as entertainment hubs featuring popular local musical artists. Graphic projections, visible from and around the venues, will add another element to the landscape.
“The inaugural Spring Forward Fest is an exciting project for Downtown Fort Wayne. The Embassy Theatre team is thrilled to receive support from the Downtown Improvement District. It is an honor to win this annual contest,” said Kelly Updike, president and CEO of the Embassy Theatre. “We are looking forward to welcoming guests and showcasing our city in a brand-new light.”
The Downtown Improvement District is pleased to announce that The Maumee Mary and Joseph Comedy Festival will also receive support from this initiative, for their upcoming 2019 production. The event has quickly became successful since its inception and activates multiple Downtown venues and businesses for a variety of comedic shows over its multi-day production.
“By offering an incentive for event production during classically less active months, we hope to empower folks to create fun, new opportunities with an emphasis on outside-of-the-box events that will contribute to the vibrancy of Downtown Fort Wayne.” said Downtown Improvement District President Bill Brown. “Special thanks to the community for all the positive response and the great concepts that were submitted this year. The Downtown Improvement District is pleased to support the launch of Spring Forward Fest and looks forward to another great entertainment opportunity in everyone’s new neighborhood, Downtown Fort Wayne!”
