AroundFortWayne’s personal annual favorite, Germanfest, returns today.
Many associate Germanfest with the Bier Tent at Headwaters Park, which opens on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Germanfest, however, is so much more with the official kick-off today.
Germanfest activities for June 3, 2018:
2:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Sonntag Spasstag (Sunday Funday)

Fort Wayne Turners’ first Flippy Cup Tournament
Four-person teams compete for cash and other prizes. Sign up at the club, or call Tracy (385-2171) or Abby (241-6452). Cost is $10/person or $40/team.
4:30 pm – Mannerchor/Damenchor Konzert (Admission Free)
Park Edelweiss, 3355 Elmhurst Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana
Doors open at 3:30 pm. Indiana’s second oldest German organization, The Fort Wayne Mannerchor/Damenchor will be your hosts for the official opening ceremony of Germanfest 2018, led by director Tom Remenschneider. Come to hear authentic German folk music.
Following the concert is Heimatabend. German beverages, live entertainment and of course Gemflichkeit to round out the evening. Doors for this event open at 5:30 pm. The menu: Kasseler Rippchen (Smoked Pork Chops) Sauerkraut, Green Beans, Potatoes with Gravy, and Kuchen (cake). Tickets can be purchased at the door for $12.

In honor of Germanfest, once again Trinity Episcopal Church will be presenting a free program of 18th-century German music played on period instruments by the Eleganza Baroque Ensemble.
