News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

Fatal Vehicle Crash

Date: April 1, 2017

Time: 11:34 PM

Location: North Coliseum Boulevard and Lake Avenue

Victim: Adult Male/Deceased

Details:

On April 1, 2017, at 11:34 PM, the Fort Wayne Police Department received a report of an injury accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of North Coliseum Boulevard and Lake Avenue. Officers arrived and found an adult male lying in the northbound lanes of North Coliseum Boulevard, who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. The male was initially determined to be in critical condition but was later pronounced deceased by paramedics.

Initial information indicates an adult male was eastbound on foot, attempting to cross North Coliseum Boulevard at Lake Avenue. As the male was crossing, he was struck by a vehicle that was northbound on North Coliseum Boulevard, which sent the male into the air and into the pathway of another vehicle that was also northbound on North Coliseum Boulevard, causing this second vehicle to also strike the male. The first vehicle fled the scene, and the second vehicle remained to speak with investigators.

At this time, investigators are processing the scene for evidence. Numerous businesses line this portion of North Coliseum Boulevard, so investigators are hoping that surveillance footage exists that captured the incident, including the vehicle that fled. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

North Coliseum Boulevard remains closed for the investigation. There is no information or description on the vehicle that fled.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
