Game recap from the TinCaps:
TinCaps Surge in Seventh, Beat Bees 7-5
Six-Run Explosion Fuels Fort Wayne Comeback
By: David Kenyon
(April 30, 2016) — The TinCaps used a six-run seventh inning to overcome a 4-0 deficit and swat the Burlington Bees, 7-5, on Friday night at Parkview Field.
Ruddy Giron started the furious two-out rally with a double on a pop fly that landed between the Burlington (8-13) shortstop and left fielder, advancing Jhonatan Pena to third. Hutton Moyer’s fielding error allowed Pena to score and Michael Gettys to reach first.
Fort Wayne (12-10) took full advantage of the mistakes.
Gettys stole second, leading to a two-run single from Ty France. Burlington intentionally walked Austin Allen, who along with France scored on a triple by Carlos Belen. Brad Zunica crushed an RBI double to give the TinCaps a 6-4 advantage.
In the eighth inning, France brought home Rod Boykin with an RBI single.
The Bees managed a run during the top of the ninth, but J.C. Cosme (W, 3-1) closed out the win. Cosme pitched four innings and struck out five.
Jared Ruxer (L, 2-1) took the loss after allowing six unearned runs in 1.2 innings. Burlington starter Joe Gatto piled up 11 strikeouts in five shutout frames.
