At 8:37 a.m., the FWPD notified media that the victim died at the hospital just after 5 a.m. this morning, making this a Fatal Shooting Investigation:
The individual found down in 500 block of E. Sherwood Terrace/north of in an alley has died at a local hospital just after 5:00 a.m. this morning.
There is no additional information at his time. The Allen County Coroner’s office will release the cause and manner of death along with the individuals identification when appropriate to do so.
Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in this investigation by calling Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (436-7867).

On Thursday, 03/31/2016, at approximately 3:07 AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to several reports of gun shots in the area of 500 E. Sherwood Terrace. While searching the area, an officer located a male down in the north/south alley just north of E. Sherwood Terrace, between Monroe St. and Warsaw St., appearing to be suffering from a gunshot wound(s). Medics arrived and determined the male to be in critical condition, and transported him to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The victim’s identity is currently unknown, so at this time it is impossible to determine if he is an adult or juvenile.
Detectives are currently canvassing the neighborhood and speaking with homeowners, hoping to locate a witness. Crime Scene Technicians are processing the scene and collecting evidence.
