1,182 books donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne thanks to Michael’s book drive

(March 24, 2016) – The children and teens at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne have new books to read, thanks to the book drive that Michael’s Arts & Crafts (Jefferson Pointe) conducts each year.

The annual book drive resulted in 1,182 books donated by customers this year. The titles include classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Bambi, The Lion King, Peter Pan, the Adventures of Dr. Doolittle, Tom Sawyer, the Jungle Book and a Sesame Street Coloring book.

Some of the books have already been added to the libraries located in each of the four Fort Wayne Clubs. The remaining books will be sorted and given to children towards the end of the school year to read at home or while they are at the Club.

The members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne spend time each day on homework, reading and other educational activities, as part of their program focus on Academic Success. Children needing extra help in basic skills may participate in small-group tutoring to improve their reading and math.

“We are appreciative of community-led campaigns like Michael’s annual book drive,” commented Joe Jordan, President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, “Our kids are always excited when they receive new books, and is a way for us to emphasize to them the importance of reading for fun, and for their education.”
